FEAST OF KINGS DEVOTIONAL
DATE: 9TH JANUARY 2025
THEME: INCREASE YOUR FAITH
TEXT: NUMBERS 27:15-23
POWER IN A LEADER'S HAND
One divinely approved way for an overling (superior authority) to transfer spiritual graces, gifts and virtues to a privileged or a loyal underling (subordinate) is by the laying on of his hand.
1. Transfer of wisdom
Moses transferred wisdom to Joshua by laying his hand upon him. And Joshua the son of Nun was full of the spirit of wisdom; for Moses had laid his hands upon him - Deuteronomy 34:9a.
The effect of the transfer of wisdom was that the Israelites Joshua was leading listened to him. And the children of Israel hearkened unto him, and did as the LORD commanded Moses - Deuteronomy 34:9b.
2. Transfer of honour
God asked Moses to lay his head upon Joshua to transfer his honour unto him. And the LORD said unto Moses, Take you Joshua the son of Nun, a man in whom is the spirit, and lay your hand upon him ... And you shall put some of your honour upon him - Numbers 27:18,20a.
The purpose of that instruction was for God to subordinate the Israelites to Joshua's leadership. That all the congregation of the children of Israel may be obedient - Numbers 27:18,20b.
By destiny and providence Judah was to lead Israel. But God chose Joshua from the tribe of Ephraim to succeed Moses because he was loyal and serviceable to Moses. AFTER THE death of Moses the servant of the Lord, the Lord said to Joshua son of Nun, Moses' minister - Joshua 1:1.
In God's kingdom, loyalty and service to an overling is the major key to succession. Joshua certainly obeyed Moses without question. He fasted with Moses for forty days. Joshua became the leader of the Israeli army in transit without excuse. God makes those that are loyal to a superior to inherit him.
Know this, loyalty and service to a superior are akin to an underling taking over from him.
Thank you for reading and may God bless you.
